The
History Of Cessation Of Life
Look for "SIDE
NOTES"
from different band members
that go more in depth on a particular
subject.
Started by Drummer Ron Ostlund in November
1995 the yet un-named band included Chris
Cromelin on lead guitar. The band worked
through the winter of 1995 and into the
summer of 1996 with miscellanies musicians
until July 1996 when ex “Domestic Violence”,
“D-Face” and “Don’t Blame God” vocalist
Chris Cronkrite (AKA Chris Violence) was
introduced as the first and only singer to
date. In late 1996 the band recruited ex
”Blizzard” and “Domestic Violence” guitar
player Travis Anderberg to share leads with
Cromelin. Soon ex “Emulator” and “Domestic
Violence” bass player Jon DuBose would join
in the winter of 1996-97 and Cessation Of
Life was born. The band spent from 1995-1997
searching for a name. A friend to the band
typed the word ”Death” into a hand held
electronic dictionary and the description
“Cessation Of Life” came up.
The band recorded and released a 4 song
CD entitled “Cessation
Of Life”
in the summer of 1997 under the production
of Mark Gordon
Creamer. Recorded in Los Angeles at the
Sounder Recording Studio the 4 song CD
included the songs “Angel
Of Mercy”
and “Ready
To Burn”.
The line up would remain the same for the
1998 release of "Aggressive
By Nature / Destructive By Choice"
and C.O.L. found themselves back working
with Mark Gordon Creamer at the Sounder
Studio’s. The 8 song full length CD featured
multimedia and a video for the single “Angel
Of Mercy”
that was recorded Live at the Whiskey a Go
Go in Hollywood California.
The band played extensively through out
the next two years hammering the Los Angeles
/ Hollywood scene and even Headlining the
Monsters Of Mosh Metal Festival in Rapid
City,
"SIDE
NOTE"
South Dakota. The band played show’s from
Arizona to LA year round with little or no
breaks. They took every shown thrown at them
including opening slots for Testament,
Death, Morbid Angel, Impelliteri, Six Feet
Under, Deicide, Hammer Fall and Grip inc at
some of LA’s hottest clubs and theaters.
In 1999 the band re-released The “Aggressive
By Nature / Destructive By Choice”
CD with all new art work.
The summer of 1999 saw the band back with
producer Mark Gordon Creamer to record a
version of Iron Maidens “Wrathchild” for the
Italian Adrenaline Records 2000 release of “Children
Of The Damned / A Tribute To Iron Maiden”.
The release was a 2 CD package that also
included the bands own “Synthetic Suicide”
from the “Aggressive
By Nature / Destructive By Choice”
CD. This CD broke them on to the European
air waves with both songs.
The band worked through the winter of
1999 writing the follow up to the “Aggressive
By Nature / Destructive By Choice”
CD. Chris Cromelin parted ways
with the band before the end of the year
leaving the band half way through a record
and bookings for a 2000 North American tour.
Cessation Of Life released the CD “3
Songs For 2000"
in June of 2000. A CD which contained song’s
from the yet to be release future CD. They
hit the road in July of 2000 as a 4 piece
not replacing Cromelin. They played small
shows across the country as well as the 2000
Milwaukee Metal Fest, the 2000 Monsters Of
Mosh in Rapid City and the 2000 November to
Dismember Metal Fest in San Bernardino
California.
In early 2001 C.O.L. returned to the
recording studio this time recording in
Ventura, California at Goldmine Studio’s
under the watchful eye of Bill Cobb. Bassist
John DuBose left the band at the completion
of the recording sessions in October 2001.
In February of 2002 ex “Reality”, “Mary
Magdalene” and “Hung Solo” bass player
Justin Harrison joined the band and
Cessation Of Life toured the US in support
of the 2002 release “Kill
You Again”.
2003
saw the band writing new material with bass
player Justin Sane. The band played around
the Los Angeles area and recorded a live
performance at “The Joint” in Hollywood,
California in July of 2003. That show later
became “Cessation
Of LIVE”
"SIDE
NOTE"
and was released later that
year. The band did a one off blow out show
in Rapid City, South Dakota in mid October.
Writing continued through the end of the
year.
2004 started with big plans to tour and
record, but in late June Ron Ostlund
(Drummer) broke his foot while on vacation
in Mexico. C.O.L. did what it had never done
before, they cancelled shows. The band still
plans to have show dates at the end of the
year including the 2004 Seattle Metal
Festival at the end of October.
2005 saw the band fly to New York to
record with Grammy award winning record
producer
John
Seymour
to create "The
Glory Of The World Is Passing"
CD and to date has received air play around
the world. 2005 also saw the website numbers
go crazy and receive a staggering 800,000 +
visitors from June to December and over
1,537,000 hits!
2006 the band was writing new material
and did sparse shows with the last show with
Travis Anderberg as lead guitar being in
October 2006.
In January 2007 Travis Anderberg official
left Cessation Of Life and was replaced with
new lead guitarist Marty Mostad. The rest of
the year was spent writing and rewriting
songs for a new CD. 4 shows we're played in
2007, Hollywood, California and the 2007
Metal Stock in Tempe Arizona. among them.
August 2008 Cessation Of Life releases the
"Path Of Totality" cd and plays multiple
shows in California. Web numbers sky rocket,
website is pulled from server due to over
traffic band width.
October 2008 band records video for the song
"Everyone and Everything" due out later in
the year.
Stay Tuned as History is being made.
